4 1/2 Questions with Anne Marino

At PA On Stage, we’re always trying to find out more about the people who make up the theatre community.  So, we came up with our 4 1/2 Questions.  That’s 4 specific, getting-to-know questions from the PA On Stage team — and one partial question that our interviewees can ‘make their own.’

This week? 4 ½ Questions with actor and director Anne Marino, who will be appearing in Come Blow Your Horn, playing May 20- June 5, at The Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg.

1  When was the last time you wrote a letter?

I think the last formal letter I wrote was when I was in college and I’m not going into dates but it was definitely a time when snail mail was the only option.  I do write notes in blank cards however, regularly to cast members on opening and closing nights and to people to whom I want to express sympathy, comfort, or personal messages.

2. Is there something you do regularly out of superstition? And if so, what?

I come from a very large Italian family and we are a superstitious people.  I still hang on to some of those superstitions by habit but there is  one way I protect myself against “ malocchio”, the Italian Evil Eye.  My grandmothers taught us that people will cast the evil eye on you for many reasons of which you are unaware and to protect yourself, you should always wear a cornicello,  an Italian horn shaped like a pepper.  I never take mine off!

3.  If you could only eat potatoes prepared one way for the rest of your life, what would that way be?

I love lumpy, homemade mashed potatoes with lots of butter and cream.

4.  What is the one valuable piece of advice you’ve held onto through your life?

Never be afraid to ask for help but always remember that you can only depend on yourself to get what you want.

 ½     What’s the worst….

People who stroll and stop dead in the middle of aisles, sidewalks, and other pathways.
