About the Show:
The 'Red Death' had long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its seal—the redness and the horror of blood. - Edgar Allan Poe
Join Open Stage for a gothic musical experience with the reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death, accompanied by an original score by Tony Wayne.
Part concert and part concept album, this new musical experience is a perfect winter chill and premieres at Open Stage.
In the piece, a plague known as the “Red Death”, which causes its victims to die quickly and gruesomely, is spreading rampantly through the country, so Prince Prospero invites his friends to his castle. The prince locks the gates to fend off the plague and throws a masquerade ball, colorfully decorating rooms of his castle. At midnight, a mysterious guest arrives, wearing a mask like a corpse…
Chris Gibson reads the classic Poe tale. The band features Tony Wayne (musical director and guitar), Jeremy Blouch (drums), Jon Godinez (bass) and Wayne Landon (keyboard).
Video and Sound designs by Briana Dow and Tony Wayne.
