ABOUT THE SHOW:
The Center for Hope & Healing in Camp Hill and Open Stage of Harrisburg will be producing a two-day experimental presentation of original plays on April 6 and 7 at Open Stage of Harrisburg.
The festival, entitled A SHARED PAIN, will be an immersive theatre experience that will feature six original works from playwrights living with and writing about their chronic physical illnesses AND one brand new work created with cancer survivors from the Harrisburg area.
All six plays will be performed each day, split between an afternoon and an evening session. In addition there will be short talk backs for audiences to share their experiences and registered drama and specialized therapists to co-lead and lend their professional support.
A SHARED PAIN is being produced in conjunction with The Center for Hope & Healing, a trauma therapy counseling center in Camp Hill, Pa that uniquely blends in the expressive arts therapies, and Open Stage of Harrisburg, the capital’s oldest professional regional theatre.
“We’re using original works about living with physical pain to communicate to a range of audiences -- people who come to the theatre, people with chronic pain and people with psychological trauma,” says John Bergman, principal drama therapist for A SHARED PAIN “We hope that all these people will stand and say ‘we all share a common challenge, no matter where that pain comes from or who is experiencing it.’”
