GAMUT THEATRE TO RECEIVE $10,000 GRANT FROM THEATER LEAGUE, INC.

(HARRISBURG, Pa)   -- Gamut Theatre announced today that it will be receiving an unrestricted $10,000 grant from Theater League, Inc, a Kansas-City-based contributor to the performing arts.

The award is part of a $225,000 grant that has been allocated across 35 members of the Shakespeare Theatre Association (STA), an organization that supports and fosters the performance of the works of William Shakespeare around the world.

“It was such a huge surprise to receive this award,” said Melissa Nicholson, Gamut Theatre’s Executive Director.  “We are so thankful to the Theater League and STA. It is so heartening to see organizations come together, support each other, and help each other continue producing the works of William Shakespeare.”

Theater League President Mark Edelman consulted STA Executive Director Patrick Flick, who helped identify Shakespeare companies in 26 states, plus the Czech Republic, to share the grant.

Supporting the work of international STA members

“As a regular contributor to the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival in Kansas City -- a long-time STA member -- we were looking to expand our support of non-profit organizations with similar goals and objectives,” Edelman said. “That led us to STA and Patrick, who helped us Identify the Shakespeare producing organizations we wanted to fund.”

“STA is always looking for ways to assist our membership, whether it be in the form of our annual conference, or by seeking out financial assistance for our hard-working member theaters,” said Flick.  “At a time when audience sizes are just beginning to rebound from the pandemic, support for Shakespeare and the classics in the communities we serve is such an important thing.”
