A New Kind of Closed Captioning

Wireless technology makes Broadway more accessible to the hearing impaired

In the past, if you were one of the estimated 48 million Americans with some degree of hearing loss and you wanted to attend a Broadway show, your choices were limited. Some performances offered accompanying sign language, some offered hearing assistance devices, some simply offered seats closer to the stage. 

But, as this NPR story reports, new technology is enabling deaf and hearing-impaired people to enjoy Broadway shows by using an app and their smartphone.
